Our Mission:
To provide Practice Management Solutions that harness powerful technologies to human service. To free dental professionals to focus on dentistry and service to their patients.

Our Business Plan:
We aren’t for sale. We’re a privately owned company whose mission and business plan are to always service the Macintosh market with quality dental software, upgrades and support.

Why do we continue to be Mac only? It’s the most stable and reliable platform and hardware and ToothPics the most reliable, stable software. The ROI (return on investment) is an incredible 250%.

If you are the kind of person who buys an automobile based on Consumer Reports recommendations for Reliability, you’ll want the same thing for your office: Apple Macintosh and ToothPics Software.

It's definitely a niche market, and we like it that way. Like the dental professional, we are big enough to provide the services and small enough to be responsive. We don’t sell products, we build relationships. Many dentists have used ToothPics for over 10 years and would not want to ever use anything else.

Because we’re geeks, you don’t have to be. We work hard to give you the easiest and most user friendly experience available with all the current ADA codes and products you need for your hardware, support, imaging and radiographic needs. We think this is fun!

With a ToothPics dentist in nearly every state, we do several ToothPics Tours a year to meet our customers and provide service and support. There are currently several agents in the field who meet our standards as well.

History:
In the early 1980’s, two computer engineers, from Honeywell and Motorola, had an idea that using the odontogram would be a perfect application for the (then) new Apple Macintosh platform.

Why dental? The idea was born while looking up from a dental chair! ToothPics became the first program to place dental charts on the Macintosh, the first graphic-based personal computer. Research showed that the dental market was in need of a good application and they found that dentistry encompassed many fascinating disciplines, providing many opportunities for productivity enhancement through software. This environment has provided a great depth for ToothPics to service, support and develop for decades.

Philosophy: Patient Education and Relationship:
The goals set for ToothPics began where traditional business software objectives left off. In addition to the business of dental record keeping, a feature set was defined that supported the practitioner at the chair, the chair assistant, administrative staff, and, for the first time, included the patients as well.

ToothPics’ goal was and is to improve patient and Doctor rapport, by providing features that inform the patient and support the practice. This results in an educated patient community readily able to accept the treatments proposed. Educated patients choose treatment based on health issues instead of insurance coverage issues, while patients with limited insurance coverage are better able to understand the need for treatment. The practitioner can truly serve the best interests of the patient.

With low-cost Apple networking and an efficient graphic interface, ToothPics was the first economical solution in 1985 to place computer terminals in the operatory. ToothPics dental chart design invites use by the chair to record the treatment, while the Dentist can use the chart to discuss the treatment plan with the patient.

ToothPics implements patient education primarily from the dental chart and was the first application available to print the dental chart on a patient receipt along with the treatment plan. The chart is printed in color, using simple patterns to define dental materials. The legend readily identifies teeth and materials while the colors indicate prior, treated and planned dental conditions and work. Patients can use their charts on vacation if emergency services are required. In the case of pedodontia, the chart is useful in educating parents, reminding them of follow-up treatment, as well as providing a provocative show and tell subject for school.

The benefits of increased dentist/patient communications include reduced stress for both the dentist and patient. The dentist feels more at ease when dealing with informed patients that know why they are “in the chair” and what to expect. The dentist and staff can easily understand and operate ToothPics, gaining a confidence that the practice is well monitored and under control.

Security:
Peace of mind for ToothPics’ users come from a variety of built-in safeguards that include and go beyond traditional business software features such as passwords. Providing the practice with advanced safeguards protects the integrity of information and prevents problems from user abuse ranging from innocent errors to fraudulent acts. Revenue protection features include a warning when estimated costs differ from current fees, and, by using the dental chart, correct codes and fees are applied for primary and permanent dentition.

ToothPics prevents damage to patient files if date and time sequencing and the current date is in error. The result is superior stability that matches the stability of the Apple Macintosh platform.

Why the ToothPics name?

Certainly not to be first in the alphabet, as we are constantly reminded! The name ToothPics evolved to relate the fundamental care objective, the Tooth, with graphics we would use to display said tooth, using, as they are known on the Macintosh, “PICTs”. ToothPics is registered with Apple as having creator type “DOSS”, an acronym for Dental Office Support Software, and an inside jab at the old DOS computers of the day.

How does the ToothPics icon design relate?
The chair and tooth image represent the Dentist looking at both the patient and the tooth, the object(s) of care. The logo also represents the patient and the Dentist being able to look at computer or x-ray images of the tooth, integrating the technology represented in ToothPics in service to the patient and dentist.
